Sugar-free hot chocolate is a great low carb drink for a cold day. My husband makes this for use when we get chocolate cravings at night and need something warm to sip on while we settle in for a movie.
This recipe calls for cream. If you’re not too worried about the carb count you could substitute milk or a milk alternative – just don’t add any sugar and the carb count should stay pretty low. The chocolate square in the recipe is optional. If you use one, aim to find chocolate that has a very high cocoa content because the higher the cocoa percentage the lower the carb count. In my area there are some brands of chocolate that have 90% cocoa, which is pretty intense! If you can’t find 90% cocoa chocolate try to aim for around 70% if you can.
For a low-fat version, omit the optional chocolate square and use non-fat milk instead of cream.
